This a first attempt at blogging. I have followed several for a while, and am awed by the quality of some of the offerings. I am not sure what to write about, but I'll give it a shot.
I am retired for 5, or so years, after an almost 40 year career in the carpet industry; working in styling, product development and sales. A have a degree in textile design from RISD. Have been in the Peace Corps (1964-66 with Chile 7), served in the International Executive Service Corps (in El Salvador where I met my wife of 43 years), and then the US Army (1967-68).
All my life, I have done things with fabric, made hand puppets, sewn costumes for halloween, and some clothing. For the last several years I have been learning to knit and crochet and I have done a lot more sewing. I would call my skills intermediate, complicated by 2 sewing machines and a serger. I have sewn garments and quilts to order and made clothing for myself, made slipcovers and cushions. I dabble, but I love fiber and fabric.
I cannot pass a piece of fabric or a hank of yarn without touching. The tactile qualities of of textiles in any form are irresistable.
